Norfolk Southern agrees to pay $4 million in fines

GRANITEVILLE, SC (WIS) - The railway company that owns the train that derailed in Graniteville 5 years ago has agreed to pay millions.

Norfolk Southern will pay a civil penalty of $4 million. In the train wreck, chlorine leaked in the Aiken County town of Graniteville.

The $4 million fine is for violating the Clean Water Act and Superfund statute.

The company will also likely pay more than $100,000 to go toward emergency response training and repopulating wildlife in the area.

Norfolk Southern does not admit any liability.
