Former SC trooper charged with domestic violence

HEMINGWAY, S.C. (AP) - A former South Carolina Highway Patrol trooper has been arrested and charged with assaulting a woman at a motel.

The Morning News of Florence reported Wednesday that State Law Enforcement Division agents arrested 36-year-old Roy Gary Hopkins of , Lake City and charged him with criminal domestic violence.

A SLED arrest warrant states Hopkins is accused of pushing a woman to the floor of a Hemingway motel several times Sunday, bruising both arms.

The newspaper reported Hopkins joined the Highway Patrol in 2006 and was fired this week.

He was taken to the Williamsburg County jail in Kingstree. It was unclear if he had an attorney.
