Poll puts Sheheen in the lead in Dem primary, but many undecided

COLUMBIA, SC (WCSC) - COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - State Sen. Vincent Sheheen has a comfortable lead in the Democratic primary for governor, according to a newly-released poll by Rasmussen.

In the poll, Sheheen takes 30 percent of support from Democratic voters followed by state Superintendent of Education Jim Rex at 22 percent and state Sen. Robert Ford at 4 percent.

However, a plurality of Democrats remain undecided in the race at 32 percent. Twelve percent back another candidate altogether.

Sheheen remains the only Democratic candidate in the race who has been able to afford television ads.

Rex gains support as the only Democrat holding a statewide office.

Rasmussen released a poll on the Republican side on Thursday that put state Rep. Nikki Haley in the lead against Congressman Gresham Barrett, Attorney General Henry McMaster, and Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer.

The state's two parties will hold a primary on June 8, with the two winners going on to face each other in November's general election.
