GREENWOOD, S.C. (AP) - A South Carolina teenager has been sentenced to five years probation for fatally shooting a man in the head when a gun trick went awry.
The Greenwood Index-Journal reports that 18-year-old Aleisha Wheeler of Greenwood was sentenced Thursday after pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter.
Wheeler was arrested in December and charged in the death of 21-year-old Matthew Fultz.
Investigators said Wheeler was trying to do a trick involving releasing a magazine without loading a gun. But the semiautomatic handgun had a round in the chamber, and the bullet hit Fultz in the side of his face.
Judge Jeff Young also ordered Wheeler to undergo mental health counseling and pay Fultz's funeral costs.
