GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) - Three South Carolina Republican candidates for governor said a big property tax break for homeowners was a mistake.
The field of 4 candidates debated taxes and other issues Saturday at a Greenville County GOP fundraiser.
Attorney General Henry McMaster, Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer and state Rep. Nikki Haley said the 2006 tax law that took school operating costs off homeowner tax bills was a mistake or flawed.
The candidates were also asked about Arizona's illegal immigration law and U.S. Rep. Gresham Barrett said the state can use existing laws to crack down on illegals.
The candidates face each other in a June 8 primary in a bid to replace term-limited Republican Gov. Mark Sanford, who leaves office in January.
