Prince Edward to visit SC to give youth awards

GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) - Britain's Prince Edward, the Earl of Wessex, will visit South Carolina this week to give out awards for his father's youth foundation and attend Greenville's Scottish Games and Highland Festival.

The Greenville News reported Sunday that Edward arrives Thursday and stays through Sunday.

He will give out 70 Duke of Edinburgh Awards to contestants in the Miss South Carolina pageant. The awards created by Prince Philip encourage young people to participate in sports and community service.

The pageant's Gail Sanders says many contestants will participate in the Scottish Games. The prince will be in Friday's festival-opening Great Scot! Parade and attend the games on Saturday.

Edward is the third son of Queen Elizabeth II and is seventh in line to the throne.
