SC gov hopeful as challengers to renounce smears

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - State Rep. Nikki Haley challenged opponents in the governor's race to renounce smear tactics after a Columbia political blogger claimed he had an affair with the married mother of 2 children.

Haley went on the offensive Monday after Will Folks claimed he had an inappropriate relationship with Haley in 2007 when he worked as a consultant for her and wrote speeches.l

Haley opened a Greenville Chamber of Commerce candidate forum by challenging her primary opponents to promise they will not get involved in smear tactics and personal attacks.

U.S. Rep. Gresham Barrett said he been the victim of similar attacks and denounced them. State Attorney General Henry McMaster said his campaign would have no part in them.
