COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - The race to fill an open Congressional seat for South Carolina's 3rd District features six Republicans trying to outflank each other on the right.
The GOP candidates are trying to differentiate themselves largely by experience, since there is little separating their platforms.
State House Reps. Jeff Duncan and Rex Rice point to their legislative records. Auto service executive Joe Grimaud cites his military service. Three political newcomers boast an outsider's perspective: businessman Richard Cash of Powdersville, attorney Neal Collins of Easley, and Dr. Mike Vasovski of Aiken.
Democrats facing off in the June 8 primaries are FedEx pilot Jane Dyer of Easley and radio talk show host Brian Doyle of Aiken.
Incumbent Republican U.S. Rep. Gresham Barrett is running for governor, leaving the seat open.
