New president for SC Technical College System

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - The president of a technical college in Virginia has been chosen as the new president of the system for South Carolina's 16 technical colleges and affiliated programs.

Montez Martin of the State Board for Technical and Comprehensive Education in South Carolina says Wednesday Darrel Staat has accepted the post of president of the South Carolina Technical College System.

The system comprises the 16 technical colleges and various programs to train or retrain employees across the state.

Staat takes over his duties Aug. 1.

He has been president of the Central Virginia Community College since 1999. Before that, he held several positions at a number of community colleges in Maine.
