COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - U.S. Rep. Gresham Barrett is airing a new South Carolina gubernatorial campaign ad defending his vote for a Wall Street bailout that's become a top problem for politicians during this primary election season.
The 60-second ads the Republican Barrett's campaign were airing Wednesday say he has voted against the Obama administration's stimulus efforts but that he supported the Bush administration on the bank bailout.
Barrett says he listened to Bush and South Carolina business leaders and made a decision. He notes the Wall Street bailout hasn't been implemented well but he made a decision based on the best information he had.
Barrett's campaign also says it forced the stop of ads by a group promoting GOP opponent Nikki Haley's agenda.
