NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A North Charleston couple and their eight pets were displaced after their apartment caught fire shortly before 4 a.m. Wednesday.
North Charleston firefighters responded to a call at 1131 Leesville Street where they found smoke in the apartment. The fire was located in the crawl space and was extinguished by 5 a.m.
The fire caused minimal damage to the floor and wall area above where the fire started. The cause of the fire has not been determined at this time.
One fire department member suffered heat stress and was transported to Roper Northwoods Hospital. He was treated and released.
The couple received assistance from the American Red Cross which arranged temporary lodging and funds to replace food and clothing lost in the fire.
