NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Two people and their eight pets were displaced from a North Charleston home by fire early Wednesday morning.
According to the North Charleston Fire Department, the fire started shortly before 4 a.m. in the crawlspace above a multi-family dwelling at 1131 Leesville St. Firefighters extinguished the fire and, after verifying the fire was not extending into another part of the building, declared it under control.
Fire officials have not determined the cause of the fire.
One fire department member suffered heat stress. He was transported by Charleston County EMS to Roper Northwoods and was treated and released.
The Red Cross assisted the family.
The Red Cross reports the agency has helped 467 victims of fire since Jan. 1.
