North Charleston police seize 189 marijuana plants, arrest two

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Two people are behind bars Thursday morning after a narcotics investigation led police to an elaborate marijuana operation.

Earl Wright, 23, and 24-year-old Yolanda Amard, both of 3279 Poindexter Road, were arrested and charged with trafficking marijuana, possession with the intent to distribute marijuana within ½ mile proximity of a school, manufacturing marijuana and manufacturing marijuana within ½ mile proximity of a school.

An ongoing drug investigation by the North Charleston police department's narcotics unit led officers to 3279 Poindexter Road in the Pepperhill subdivision Wednesday. While executing a search warrant, officers located 189 marijuana plants in various stages of growth and another 343.8 grams of marijuana, worth a total street value of $850,000.

Officers also located several items that were used to assist in the growth of the plants and equipment that was conducive for the growth of marijuana plants.
