CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - Ginny Deerin is dancing in angel wings in the sweltering heat on the South Carolina coast to raise money for her nationally renowned after-school program.
Deerin decided she would dance on a Charleston street corner until she raised the $120,000 needed for the budget for her Wings program. She put in 12 hours on Thursday and was out again at 7 a.m. on Friday. The total donated so far has exceeded $81,000.
Deerin, who turns 60 next month, continued dancing as the temperature reached 90 degrees.
The program, which Deerin started 12 years ago, teaches emotional learning skills to poorer children. It has attracted national attention.
