ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - A federal fisheries management council has passed a measure that would restrict the fishing of red snapper off the southeast Atlantic coast.
Fishermen will be prohibited from catching red snapper in federal waters from North Carolina down to the Florida Keys under the measure passed Wednesday.
An interim ban was already in place, and it will be extended by the measure.
The ban also prohibits the fishing of other snapper and grouper species in a nearly 5,000-square-mile zone off the coast of southern Georgia and northeastern Florida.
