Charleston man charged with murder after kicking, beating man to death

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Charleston police have charged a man with murder after kicking and beating a man to death.

Robert Lee Wright Jr., 40, of Romney Street is being charged with murder in the death of Christopher Thomas Jenkins, 46, of 2A Harris Street.

Police say that while walking in the area of Lee Street, south of Aiken Street on Thursday, Jenkins was kicked and punched numerous times by Wright. Jenkins did not go to the hospital for his injuries, but on Friday EMS and Charleston Fire Department personnel found Jenkins unresponsive in his home.

Jenkins was transported to the Medical University of South Carolina where he was pronounced dead.

Wright is being held in the Charleston County Detention Center. The investigation is ongoing.
