COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Attorney General Henry McMaster is endorsing state Rep. Nikki Haley in the Republican primary runoff for governor after McMaster came in third in last week's vote.
McMaster will join Haley at his former campaign headquarters in Columbia on Tuesday morning to make a formal announcement.
Haley and U.S. Rep. Gresham Barrett were the top two finishers in the GOP primary June 8. The last-place candidate, Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer, has endorsed Barrett.
Haley narrowly missed getting 50% of the vote to avoid a runoff. She finished with 49% to Barrett's 22%.
McMaster's campaign manager Rob Godfrey has said he doesn't think Barrett can win without resorting negative campaigning that could damage the GOP nominee in the general election.
