SLED closes AG death threat case, no charges to be filed

COLUMBIA, SC (WCSC) - The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division concluded Wednesday an investigation into a presumed death threat made against South Carolina Attorney General Henry McMaster.

On May 18, shortly before 11 a.m., a person placed what was perceived as a threatening note addressed to McMaster in the deposit drop box of Heritage Trust Federal Credit Union located at 8435 Dorchester Rd. in North Charleston.

SLED has identified and talked with the person who wrote the communication and has determined that the individual poses no threat of harm to McMaster. SLED also determined that the reference to "Jesuits" was not related in any way to a threat against the Attorney General.

When the investigation began, SLED deemed it necessary to take appropriate measures regarding the safety of the Attorney General.

No charges will be filed in this case.
