Regulators meet on northern SC nuke plant plans

Posted: Updated:

GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) - Federal regulators are holding a public meeting to talk about their review of Duke Energy's application to build two nuclear reactors in northern South Carolina.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is meeting Thursday in Gaffney to talk about the reactors Duke wants to build at the nearby Lee site, about 35 miles southwest of Charlotte, N.C.

In 2008, the Atomic Safety and Licensing Board judges rejected an environmental group's request to block the project.

The Blue Ridge Environmental Defense League had questioned the impact of the plants on water supplies, global warming and other issues.
