LEXINGTON, SC (WIS) - Someone spray-painted the words "you lie" on a sign and wall at Congressman Joe Wilson's campaign office.
Reminders of the two words that made Joe Wilson a household name were found Thursday morning on a wall at Wilson's campaign headquarters and on a campaign sign.
Wilson communications director Brian DeRoy said staffers found the vandalism Thursday when they were arriving to the office on State street shortly after 8 a.m. DeRoy believes it happened Wednesday night or early Thursday morning.
In 2009, Wilson yelled "You lie," during President Obama's health care speech to Congress when Obama denied the health care plan would cover illegal immigrants. Wilson later apologized for the outburst.
"We have no idea who did this," DeRoy said, "It's pretty obvious there's probably a fair amount of 'donkey dung' probably on this incident," referring to the Demoratic party.
"We are troubled that someone would want to spoil Joe Wilson's recent primary victory, where he received the most votes of any Congressional candidate in Republican South Carolina primary history," said DeRoy.
This isn't the first time the office has been vandalized. DeRoy said that a similar incident happened a couple of months ago. The campaign also reports of multiple incidents throughout the district of signs being vandalized or stolen.
Wilson represents the Second Congressional District of South Carolina which extends from the Columbia to the coastal cities of Beaufort and Hilton Head Island.
West Columbia police are investigating.
