EDISTO ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - Charleston deputies Tuesday arrested a man they allege shot and killed another man on Edisto Island.

Kendrel Jerome Brown of Jacksonboro was arrested and charged with the murder of Kavares Brown.

The incident happened at The Pit Club located at 1467 Hwy 174 shortly after midnight June 18.

According to the affidavit, detectives met with a witness who said, on the night of the incident, he watched a burgundy Buick pull up to an area near The Pit Club. Several men exited the car brandishing firearms and covering their faces with bandanas, said the unnamed witness. The men, according to the affidavit, ordered everyone to stay still.

However, the group of people outside the club fled and the assailants started firing shots into the crowd. The victim was struck several times.

When deputies arrived,  29-year-old Kavares Brown had been transported to MUSC with a gunshot wound to the chest.  Brown was pronounced dead on arrival as a result of his wounds.

The witness, through a photo line-up, was able to identify the driver of the vehicle as Kendrel Jerome Brown.

Kavares Brown apparently was shot in the parking lot where deputies found shell casings from two different caliber firearms.

Deputies said the investigation is ongoing and they expect to make more arrests.
