Army Guard unit in Charleston gets new chief

CHARLESTON, SC (AP) - A South Carolina Army National Guard unit based in Charleston is getting a new commander.

Army officials say Lt. Col. Waymon Storey will take command Saturday of the 218th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade during a special ceremony at Johnson-Hagood football stadium.

Storey is taking over from Brig. Gen. Glenn Bramhall who will pass the unit flag to the new commander as a symbol of the passing of authority.

The unit's troops will be reviewed and a 12-pound Howitzer will be fired at the completion of the event.

The brigade includes about 3,500 soldiers and about 500 of its members are currently deployed to Afghanistan.
