State troopers investigating North Charleston wreck

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating an accident with injuries in North Charleston.

The accident happened around 9:30 p.m. Sunday in front of Trident Technical College.

North Charleston police noticed a white Ford Explorer strike the guard rail while entering I-526 from North Rhett Avenue. According to a department spokesman, The driver continued on Rivers Avenue running stop lights and increasing speed.

Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle, however, the driver failed to stop and continued on to Rivers Avenue west bound. The driver struck another car before losing control of the vehicle and crashing near Rivers Avenue and Mabeline Road.

Officials have not released the driver's identity nor have they said how many people were injured.

Parts of Rivers Avenue were temporarily shut down and officials detoured traffic around the accident.
