Gov. Sanford vacations without briefing Lt. gov.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford is expected back in the office after again taking a vacation without telling Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer where he was.

The State newspaper reported gubernatorial spokesman Ben Fox would not say Monday where the governor was, except to say he's been off.

On June 24, 2009, Sanford returned from vacation to say he had been in Argentina visiting a woman he later told The Associated Press was his "soulmate." Sanford and his wife, Jenny, divorced in March.

Fox said Sanford was expected in the office Tuesday. Fox says Sanford spent most of the Father's Day weekend with his four sons.

Fox says Sanford has been in contact with his office. Sanford's office said last year the governor was hiking the Appalachian Trail.

Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer says no one told him where the governor was.
