Armed robbery suspect busted 10 minutes after stealing

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Charleston police arrested a man 10 minutes after an armed robbery Monday night.

Darryl Nicholas Evans, 18, of Cleveland Street, has been charged with armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.

Officers responded to 12-B Allway Street in reference to an armed robbery at 7:20 p.m. Monday. Upon arrival, the victim told police that he was approached by the suspect while both men were riding bicycles.

The suspect asked the victim for a light and when the victim reached in his pocket for a lighter the suspect pulled out a black handgun from his waistband and pointed it at the victim.

The suspect then went through the victim's pockets with the gun pointed at him. The suspect stole a pack of a cigarettes, $4, two cell phones, a phone charger, a gold chain and two South Carolina identification cards. The suspect also stole the victim's bicycle and fled towards Coming Street.

Evans was arrested about 10 minutes later. He is being held in the Charleston County Detention Center.

The investigation is ongoing.
