Berkeley County residents upset about Brown's 'fooled' comment

MONCKS CORNER, SC (WCSC) - Berkeley County voters are sounding off in response to comments made by retiring congressman Henry Brown.

Brown lost a primary runoff for BerkeleyCounty Supervisor to Dan Davis on Tuesday.

"I guess the people want to be fooled," Brown said after losing by roughly 1,800 votes Tuesday. "And if they like being fooled I guess they have an opportunity at that."

Many Berkeley County residents said Wednesday that Brown's comments were all the proof they needed that they made the right decision at the polls.

Brown also said Tuesday night that the reason he lost was because Davis ran a mud slinging campaign.

"We felt like with his campaign, it was run very negative," Brown said. "Apparently negativism works and I am a victim of that."

A review of Davis' television advertisements made no direct mention of Brown, but did take a shot at Washington style politics.

When asked if he wanted to address Tuesday's comments, Brown said: "I said what I said and I do not need to explain myself."
