WALTERBORO, SC (WCSC) - Suspicious activity involving illegally selling alcohol on Sunday led Walterboro police into a deeper investigation which resulted in a drug-related arrest.
Lee Donaldson, 55, is charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana and possession with intent to distribute within proximity. He is also charged with unlawful manufacture of alcohol / liquor and unlawful sale of alcohol and liquor.
Police observed people entering Donaldson's home Sunday and leaving with alcohol. When approached by police, the subjects said they had purchased alcohol at the residence. Police obtained a search warrant for the home under suspicion that the suspect was selling liquor and beer without a state license or city business license.
While executing a search warrant at Donaldson's home at 203 Gerideau St., police discovered a building separate from the house that had a closed circuit camera system. Inside the shed was a small, store-like setting.
Officers located a paper bag full of money and four pints of Canadian Supreme Liquor, 17 12-ounce cans of Schlitz beer, seven 24-ounce cans of Schlitz beer and 15 24-ounce cans of Ice House beer. Police also found two loaded weapons and some drug paraphernalia. Donaldson is a convicted felon and is prohibited from owning firearms.
Inside a second shed, adjacent to the first, officers found two packages of empty baggies consistent with drug sales, a set of digital scales with drug residue and a loaded revolver hidden in a sock. Police also found more liquor, more loaded guns, a few small baggies of marijuana and several unmarked pill bottles.
During the execution of a second search warrant for drugs, police found more small baggies containing marijuana. The marijuana totaled 16.5 ounces.
Donaldson is being held in the Colleton County Detention Center.
