MURRELLS INLET, SC (WCSC) - Georgetown County sheriff's deputies arrested 24-year-old James Campbell for attempted armed robbery Thursday night.
Campbell, of 4310 Lotus Ct. Apartment H in Murrells Inlet, was arrested after he demanded money with a knife from a bank patron at an ATM in Murrells Inlet.
Deputies responded to the Wachovia Bank located at 4380 Hwy 17 By-Pass in reference to an attempted armed robbery. Campbell allegedly approached the patron, presented what the patron described as a white plastic knife and demanded money.
When the patron refused, the suspect fled the area on foot into the woods behind the bank. The suspect was described as a white male, approximately 6' tall, wearing red shorts, no shirt and a black doo rag.
The sheriff's office bloodhound team began tracking Campbell while sheriff's investigators began collecting evidence. As a result of the track, the bloodhound led the team to Campbell's residence on Lotus Court.
Investigators also located a cell phone at the incident location that was identified as Campbell's. Once at the residence, Campbell was arrested without incident.
Campbell is currently being held at the Georgetown County Detention Center where he will formally be charged Friday.
