Dozens of baby food items tested for lead

An environmental group is warning parents about dangerous levels of lead discovered in dozens of baby food products.

Charlotte mom, Melissa Miller, found two of the products in their kitchen pantry: juice and a fruit cup.

"I was definitely surprised," said Miller. She checked the list when a friend emailed it to her.

She has a one-year-old little boy named Easton, and does the best she can to make sure what he eats is safe.

"Based on the email...I'll throw that stuff out," she said. "But I also feel like there could be another email a month from now," she said, talking about the steady stream of warnings and recalls parents often encounter.

The Environmental Law Foundation filed a notice with the State of California this month after doing their own product testing.

None of the products has been involved in a federal recall or warning. California law on lead levels is tougher than the national standard.

The watchdog group says trace amounts of lead were found in things like apple and grape juice, packaged pears and peaches and fruit cocktail.
