80-year-old Charleston woman killed in RV-car collision on I-26

CALHOUN COUNTY, SC (WIS) - A west-bound driver on Interstate 26 in Calhoun County was killed Tuesday evening when the car she was driving was struck by a recreational vehicle head-on.

Calhoun County coroner Donnie Porth said that 80-year-old Sarah Hartsock, of Charleston, died of blunt force trauma in the wreck around 5 p.m. Tuesday.

According to the South Carolina highway patrol, Hartsock was driving a Nissan Altima on I-26 about two miles south of the Charleston Highway when the RV crossed the median from the east-bound lanes and struck her car.

Porth added that witnesses said the RV appeared to blow a tire.

The RV driver, James Rodriguez, 66, of Melbourne, Fla., did not suffer any injuries in the collision.
