Man pleads guilty in 2009 North Charleston murder

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A murder suspect who killed a father while he was outside playing with his daughter pled guilty Wednesday afternoon.

Anthony Brown, 18, was sentenced to 35 years in prison on charges of murder, possession of a firearm, armed robbery and criminal conspiracy.

North Charleston police say three men robbed and killed 24-year-old Orlando Benitez-Martinez in March of 2009.

The father was outside his home at the Hawthorne Mobile Home Park. At the time of the murder, Brown was 17.

Two other suspects, 18-year-old Marquise Summers and 19-year-old Marvin Rutledge are also being charged with murder and armed robbery.
