MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) — The town of Mount Pleasant will receive $20 million to widen five miles of U.S. Highway 17.
The state Transportation Infrastructure Bank Board voted unanimously Thursday to approve the 20-year loan. The loan will be combined with about $15 million in local funds to complete the road widening project.
The stretch of road from the Isle of Palms Connector to Darrell Creek Trail will go from four to six lanes to ease traffic.
Construction is expected to start in January and is expected to be completed by January 2013.
The loan needs to be approved by one more state board, but officials expect it to be approved.
