Charleston man arrested for possession of child porn

MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - A Charleston man was arrested Thursday for possession of child pornography.

Mount Pleasant police arrested Brandon Lee Simmons, 25, of 1596 Pebble Creek Court and charged him with one count of sexual exploitation of a minor, a felony offense punishable with up to 10 years imprisonment.

Simmons is charged with possessing digital images depicting children engaged in sex acts.

The arrest was announced Friday by Attorney General Henry McMaster because the Mt. Pleasant police department is a member of the Attorney General's Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

Task force investigators have received training on the use of special software to conduct undercover investigations related to the sharing of child pornography on peer-to-peer (file sharing) networks.

The Mauldin police department and the Charleston police department, also members of the task force, assisted in the case. The matter is an ongoing investigation, and additional charges may be filed.

Simmons is being held in the Charleston County Detention Center.

The case will be prosecuted by the Attorney General's Office.
