NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A Sunday night shooting in which three victims survived being shot in their car, resulted in several arrests related to drug and gun charges.
Police responded to a shooting in the area of Mountain Brook Avenue in the Pepperhill neighborhood. North Charleston police say three people were in a car Sunday night when a shots were fired, shattering the back window.
The victims say that the shooter was a black male , 5'6" to 5'8" in height, weighing about 135 pounds. He was wearing a black T-shirt, long black shorts and a white rag over his head. He has dread locks and used a black semi automatic gun.
The victims were able to escape their Mercury Grand Marquis and run down the street into a nearby apartment.
One person was cut by shattered glass, but no one was seriously injured.
When police arrived they were given permission by the apartment's lease holder, Kevin Hamm, to search the apartment for any weapons or signs of blood from the shooting. During the search, one of the officers observed a clear Tupperware container with what appeared to be packaged crack cocaine inside.
The officer stopped the search and referred the search warrant to narcotics detectives.
Upon further investigation of the apartment that the victims ran into, North Charleston police were able to arrest three men on multiple drug and gun charges.
Officers located 70 grams of cocaine base and three handguns during the search of 3303 Mountainbrook Drive.
Police charged Jamaal Anderson, 24, of Mountainbrook Drive with trafficking cocaine, possession with intent to distribute cocaine within ½ proximity of a school, manufacturing cocaine base, manufacturing cocaine base within ½ mile proximity of a school, and possession of a handgun during the commission of a violent crime.
Cordaro Mitchell, 23, of Battery Avenue in Charleston is charged with possession of a handgun with obliterated serial number.
Hamm, 20, is charged with possession of cocaine.
The relationship of the shooting victims to the men arrested is not known at this time. The shooter, who fled the scene in a dark SUV with a partial South Carolina license plate of DV?197, is still at large.
