Downtown Charleston deli robbed, cameras capture act

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Police are looking for a man who smashed a glass door and robbed a popular downtown Charleston eatery during the recent holiday weekend.

On July 4, the manager of East Bay Deli on East Bay Street told police she found the back door of the restaurant shattered and called the owner for assistance.

When the owner arrived, he replayed the night's surveillance footage for police. The video shows a black male suspect wearing a dark colored baseball cap, baggy pants and a white and gray plaid shirt. According to police, the suspect made off with $300 in cash and a cash register.

According to the police report, the owner was called by security company ADT when the alarm was triggered but the owner declined the offer to send police to the scene.

Police estimate the damage to be $5,300.
