One person dead after car lands in pond

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) – An overturned vehicle left one person dead and another in the hospital Friday night.

The Charleston County Coroner's Office said 25-year-old Joshua Lawrence of Summerville died from drowning.

Officers responded to a vehicle that was submerged in the water around 11:30 p.m. on Rivers Avenue in North Charleston at Eagle Landing Boulevard.

According to police, three officers dove into the water to retrieve both people out of the car.

Witnesses told police they saw two vehicles heading northbound on Rivers Avenue when one of the vehicles hit the curb and flipped into the pond.

Police said Lawrence was transported to Roper Northwoods Hospital where he died. The second victim was transported to the Medical University of South Carolina.

The second victim's condition is still unknown at this time.
