Mother of murdered sailor speaks out about suspects

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The mother of a Summerville sailor who was murdered nearly 20 years ago is speaking out.

Rosaline Horton said one of the suspects now behind bars for the killing may have been the chief of her son's boat.

Her son, James or "Jim" Horton, was found beaten and shot to death in a Summerville ditch back in 1992. Police believe he was also sexually assaulted.

So far four people have been arrested in connection to Horton's murder. Horton's mother said she can't believe so many people were involved in her son's death.

"When I heard it, it's like day one, starting all over again," Rosaline Horton said. "I would like to see closure for us because they did it and they should pay for what they did. And who knows what they've been doing for 17 years. They've been enjoying life."

The murder suspects include a man from Montana, a man from New York and a woman from Goose Creek.

The fourth suspect, Douglas Emery, was arrested in New Jersey this week.
