Mt. Pleasant man's body recovered in Wando River

BERKELY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - The body of a boater who disappeared after falling off a boat in the Wando River on Sunday was found early Monday morning.

Rescue crews found the body of 47-year-old Jim Turner of Mount Pleasant around 1:30 a.m. Monday near the Highway 41 bridge.

Berkeley County dispatch was informed just before 6 p.m. Sunday that the boater was missing.

The group with Turner on the boat said they stopped their boat to go for a swim in the river. That is when Turner went under and wasn't seen again.

An autopsy will be done to determine the cause of death. The Berkeley County Coroner's Office and the Department of Natural Resources are investigating Turner's death.

Berkeley County Rescue, Charleston County Rescue, the Charleston County Sheriff's Office, and DNR joined in the search.
