SC officials investigate drowning at water park

ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) - State officials will investigate the drowning of a 4-year-old girl at a South Carolina YMCA water park.

Department of Health and Environmental Control spokesman Adam Myrick told The Times and Democrat of Orangeburg that the agency will investigate the Orangeburg facility and talk to emergency workers and the coroner's office.

Myrick says DHEC is trying to determine if the drowning was a tragic accident or if more safety measures are needed.

Authorities say Ariana Robinson of Neeses was found underwater beneath a water slide during a private party at the park Saturday night. Her death has been ruled an accidental drowning.
