CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A Beaufort man pled guilty in a Charleston federal court Friday to aiding and abetting in the transporting of illegal aliens.
Zi Tong Wang, 34, will be sentenced after a judge reviews a pre-sentence report, which will be prepared by the U.S. Probation Office.
Evidence established that Wang, who is illegally in the U.S. himself, was one of the owners and operators of the Jade Garden Restaurants located in both Beaufort and Bluffton.
Wang encouraged employees at these two restaurants to transport restaurant employees, who Wang knew were illegal aliens, to and from the Jade Garden Restaurants so that they could work there. Wang also provided vehicles to transport the illegal aliens and employees.
The maximum penalty Wang can receive is a fine of $250,000 and imprisonment for five years. The case was investigated by the Charleston Office of Immigration and Customs Enforcement of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
