Mt. Pleasant police officer on administrative leave

MT. PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) – Mount Pleasant Police say one of their officers has been put on administrative leave with pay after he used his patrol car as a taxi to drive a group of women  home from a bar after they said they were drunk.

Captain Carl Ritchie says one of his officers received a call to pick up some women at the Market Saloon in North Charleston early Saturday morning.

Captain Ritchie says people at the bar began snapping pictures of the officer allowing the women to climb into his patrol car.

Mt. Pleasant Police located the officer Saturday morning and brought him to the police station.

The officer was tested for alcohol in his blood when he arrived at the station to make sure that he was not drunk. The test results showed no alcohol in his blood.

Captain Ritchie told Live 5 News the Mount Pleasant Police Department does not tolerate such behavior, and that's why the department's internal affairs office is conducting an investigation.

The police officer's patrol car is now at the Mt. Pleasant Police Department.
