WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) - A tip from a citizen Saturday led Charleston police to confiscate 75 marijuana plants, growing equipment, four guns and several ecstasy pills from two Briarcliff Drive residences.
Nathan Andrew Salyer, 23, and John Brandon Schrader, 28, were both charged with possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute and possession of a controlled substance. Ryan Taylor Newton, 22, was charged with two counts of possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, possession of a controlled substance and possession of a sawed-off shotgun.
While on patrol on South Sherwood Drive, an officer was stopped and given information about illegal drug activity on Briarcliff Drive. During an exterior inspection of the property, the officer spotted two marijuana plants growing in the back yard of the home at 28 Briarcliff Dr.
The officer called in the special investigations unit and a search warrant was executed. Officers confiscated the two marijuana plants, a shotgun, marijuana manufacturing equipment and several ecstasy pills.
During the investigation, officers learned that the entire operation was being moved from 24 Briarcliff Dr. to 28 Briarcliff Dr., so they obtained a search warrant for that property as well.
At the second home, officer confiscated about 75 more plants, a hand gun, two rifles and assorted ammunition. Officers estimate the street value of the marijuana to be $50,000.
Salyer, Schrader and Newton were all placed into custody and taken to the Charleston County Detention Center.
Police are continuing to investigate the case.
