Software company leaving Columbia for Lowcountry

CHARLESTON, SC - Avista Solutions, a company specializing in web‐based mortgage software for Community Banks, Credit Unions, and Mortgage Bankers, announced Tuesday the relocation of their corporate headquarters to Charleston from Columbia.

For four consecutive years, the privately held firm has been named a Mortgage Technology Magazine's Top 50 service provider.

Avista Solutions CEO, Mark Phlieger, cited Charleston's support of the technology industry through targeted initiatives, the ability to attract high quality talent and Charleston's lifestyle as primary reasons for choosing to locate their headquarters in Charleston.

"The unique culture of the city and the beautiful surroundings make Charleston an attractive move for any company, but what really set it apart for us was the city's support and nurturing of the knowledge‐based business community," said Mark Phlieger. "I was introduced to Digital Corridor Director, Ernest Andrade, by John Russ, Chairman of Community FirstBank. Ernest and his staff have gone above and beyond to show us all Charleston has to offer a technology company."

"Mayor Riley's passion for growing Charleston's knowledge economy is evident in initiatives like the Digital Corridor. We are excited to join the ranks of Charleston's rapidly growing high‐tech companies, to have access to a talented qualified workforce and to become an active contributor to the Charleston community," he added.

Charleston Mayor, Joseph P. Riley, Jr. welcomed the move of Avista Solutions headquarters to Daniel Island, an area in the Digital Corridor's Cainhoy District.

"We are very pleased to have directly facilitated the relocation of Avista's headquarters to Daniel Island by providing them a transitional and professional office environment at the Flagship – Charleston's premier co‐working and business incubator facility in downtown Charleston," he said.

"Avista Solutions is a terrific addition to our growing roster of software companies on Daniel Island which includes the region's largest and fastest growing companies—Blackbaud and Benefitfocus, respectively," said Kirk King, Digital Corridor Foundation Chairman. "With initiatives like Charleston Works™ and the Digital Corridor's Talent Portal, we continue working to further develop Charleston's technical workforce, a key ingredient for our software companies to thrive."

Avista Solutions currently has forty employees and expects to grow to eighty to one hundred employees over the next few years. Avista's location to Charleston was facilitated by the Charleston Digital Corridor.
