Police: Group of 4 men beat up, robbed man in downtown Charleston

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Four men are wanted for allegedly beating up and robbing a man in downtown Charleston early Friday morning.

The victim told police that four black males assaulted from behind on Jackson Street. The victim said he was struck several times with closed fists, he was kicked and then the suspects stole $200 in cash from his wallet and his cell phone. After taking the cash, the suspects returned the wallet and fled.

After the assault the victim ran to several nearby businesses for help, but no one answered until he arrived on King Street and found a police officer.

According to police, the victim's left eye was swollen and he was bleeding from the mouth and forehead.

The victim was transported to the Medical University for treatment where it was determined he had suffered a fractured hand from trying to defend himself. The victim was treated and released.

Witnesses to the armed robbery saw two of the suspects this morning at Meeting and Calhoun Street. Both men were wearing black shorts and white t-shirts.

Police are still looking for all four suspects who are described as black males.
