5 SC residents may be called in Anna Nicole Smith trial

CONWAY, S.C. (AP) - Five South Carolina residents may be called to testify at the trial of Anna Nicole Smith's boyfriend and her two physicians.

The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reports warrants from California were presented Monday before a South Carolina judge.

The five may testify because they were familiar with Smith and her physical condition. If they refuse to go to California, they could be arrested.

A second week of testimony is under way in Los Angeles in the trial of Smith's lawyer-boyfriend Howard K. Stern and her two doctors. The three have pleaded not guilty to conspiring to provide Smith excessive amounts of opiates and sedatives. They have not been charged with her death.

The 39-year-old Smith was found dead in Hollywood, Fla., in February 2007.
