GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - Authorities in Georgetown are searching for a Branchville, SC, man who eluded police during a traffic stop on Monday.
Capt. Nelson Brown, spokesman for the Georgetown Police Department, said search warrants were signed Wednesday for Dexter Nigel Stephens. Stephens, according to Brown, was one of three people inside of a car that led police on a short pursuit on Monday.
Upon arrest, Stephens is expected to be charged with interference/hindering officers serving a warrant, child endangerment, assault and battery, and failure to stop for a blue light.
Police said Stephens was in the company of Arron Rivera and Derrick Rivera during the brief chase. Derrick Rivera, 20, was arrested by Georgetown Police and later bailed from the Georgetown County Detention Center through a closing door.
Rivera's escape from custody prompted a ground and aerial manhunt in a perimeter around the Georgetown County Detention Center. The 20-year-old was arrested early Tuesday morning after showing up in a mobile home park off of US-701.
A judge granted Rivera a $50,000 bond for his armed robbery charge during a Tuesday bond hearing. No bail was set for the additional first degree burglary and escape charges.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Stephens is asked to call the Georgetown Police Department immediately.
