Accused cat killer's bond reduced

WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) - The man accused of killing several cats at a mobile home park in July was told today by a judge his bond was being reduced.

Judge James Gosnell Jr., told Shane Byerly, 32, his bond was being reduced to $10,000 and a set of conditions.

Byerly's original bond was set at $100,000.

According to Gosnell, Byerly is not allowed to go back on the mobile home park's property until the investigation has concluded, cannot have any contact with the victim, and has to surrender all weapons to his attorney.

Byerly's attorney is also going to make Byerly attend regular outpatient mental health counseling.

Authorities say Byerly killed four cats, lured them to his window with a pot roast and then shot at them with a BB gun.

Necropsy results were returned July 8, showing the cats had been poisoned and shot with a pellet gun. Several other cats and kittens were taken to the Charleston Animal Society for protective care.
