CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - The honey bee hives might look a bit out of place perched atop one of Charlotte's most luxurious hotels, but the product never tasted so sweet.
Ritz Carlton officials christened the hives back in April with 3 colonies of bees. Wednesday, beekeepers donned bee suits to take the first batch of honey.
More than 5 gallons came from the first draw, more is expected as bees continue to live it up on the roof of the swanky hotel.
Ritz-Carlton's head chef uses the honey exclusively in the hotel for teas and yogurt. The chef also makes a tremendous pecan-honey ice cream.
If you want to get your hands on some of the prestigious nectar, too bad. The goods stay within the hotel to keep the experience unique to hotel guests.
