Coroner identifies woman who drowned in car

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Authorities believe heavy rain and flooding contributed to a deadly automobile accident Friday night. The Coroner's Office says 73-year-old Anne Watson from Cayce, South Carolina drove into a pond and drowned.

North Charleston police officers were dispatched to 2070 Northbrook Blvd. in reference to a call about a vehicle entering a retention pond.

Upon arriving, officers saw the vehicle in the pond. A North Charleston police officer along with two bystanders entered the pond and removed Watson from the vehicle. EMS transported her to St. Frances Roper Hospital where she later died.

Preliminary investigation indicates Watson was operating her vehicle in heavy rain and the parking lot was flooded. The incident remains under investigation.
