Extradition of murder suspect to Charleston could take 2 more weeks

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The man accused of stabbing a Bluffton woman to death last week will not be transported to Charleston County for at least another two weeks.

The body of 27-year-old Alexis Lukaitis was found on the side of a rural dirt road in Charleston County last Monday. Deputies charged Darold Drayton, 32, with murder. He was already in custody when deputies issued warrants for his arrest last week.

He must first face charges of failure to register as a sex offender and simple possession of marijuana in Beaufort County before deputies can bring him to Charleston. The sheriff's office said they believe that will take at least two weeks.

Drayton was convicted in 2005 of committing a lewd act on a child and ended his probation in 2008. According to the State Law Enforcement Divisions Sex Offender Registry website, Drayton has 10 aliases.

Drayton's rap sheet is extensive with convictions for forgery, drug possession and manufacturing drugs, assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, and a few armed robberies.
